It's the last week of term before our 2 week Spring Break!!
Please find below details about some fun events happening on the last day of term Friday March 10th, and, also at the end of this email (keep reading...) is a VERY IMPORTANT save the date for a very fun social evening coming up for parents - "ARTRAGEOUS"!
Friday March 10th, 2017 will see 3 things happening to celebrate the end of a fabulous term at Canyon Heights - it will be a Freedom Friday, Grade 7s will be selling popcorn for $1.00 at the end of school (proceeds go towards their Graduation events and legacy gift) as well as it being CRAZY hair day at school.
What do you need to do or know?
- remember to get your kids to tuck $1.00 into their pockets or bags and remind them that popcorn is for sale after school (at the back and front of school)
Crazy Hair Day:
- encourage your kids to do something crazy with their hair - wigs, colour, a 'do' - crazier the better.
Freedom Friday :
- Walk or roll to school day! Please ditch the car and walk or roll to school. Getting to school on foot or wheels has so many benefits for students - health, mental well being, building community, giving them time and distractions to forget how many times they were asked to get their shoes on ... If you absolutely have to drive, then please use our Drive to Five points - park in a safe place and walk the 5 minutes.
We will be coming together at the front of school before the first bell for some coffee for parents.
A bit more information on Freedom Friday:
Canyon Heights has set the standard amongst the district for our encouraging campaign to get our students walking or rolling to school. Last Freedom Friday approximately 70% of students walked or rolled to school - let's do even better this time! Freedom Friday has been central to our 'active transportation' campaign, and is a programme that other schools in the district now use. Not only is it a way to encourage us to walk / roll to school we also use it as a way to emphasize the importance of safe use of roads in our school community, so this Freedom Friday will have a “Safety Blitz” theme
We will have ICBC, North Vancouver RCMP, District of North Vancouver Fire, District of North Vancouver Bylaws and Community Policing out to promote safety in school zones and reinforcement! We will also have Alex Milek visiting from DNV Transportation Department. Alex was kind enough to put the “Big Sign” out front of the school – “Your LOL can wait - Leave your phone alone” for putting the sign up there if you get a chance please let him know how much we love it and we'd like it to stay!
We will also have special guests from North Vancouver School District: Superintendent Mark Pearmain, Asst Superintendent Chris Atkinson and Communication Manager – Deneka Michaud (she will be taking some pictures/video to post on website to showcase Freedom Friday!)
We are looking for volunteers to help out on the Friday morning so please send an email to Kulvir@shaw.ca if you are able to help with any of these:
